Negotiations updates

Here’s the latest information:

• Negotiations with CUPW began in November 2023.
• So far, we’ve met more than 100 times.
• Following eight months of negotiations, CUPW issued notices of dispute to the Minister of Labour on August 2, 2024. 
• Notices of dispute move us into a phase called conciliation. Conciliation provides an extended timeline for the parties to continue negotiating with the help of neutral, third-party conciliators.
• The conciliation period began on August 13, 2024 and typically lasts 60 days. It can also be extended if both parties agree, but a labour disruption cannot happen during conciliation.
• CUPW began holding a strike vote with its members to receive a strike mandate. This is a standard procedure under the Canada Labour Code.

Process continues  

Following conciliation, if no agreement has been reached, there’s 21-day cooling-off period. Only after this cooling-off period would either party be in a position to initiate a labour disruption (following 72-hour advance notice).

Negotiations can continue throughout this process.

Operations continue as normal

Our business operations continue as normal during the negotiations process. We continue to have the goal of working collaboratively with CUPW to reach negotiated agreements, without a labour disruption.
